The Yomiuri ShimbunAstronaut Kimiya Yui captured a Kounotori unmanned cargo vehicle using a robotic arm when it reached the International Space Station on Monday night.

During the operation, Yui was supported by another Japanese astronaut, Koichi Wakata, 52, who served as lead capsule communicator at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration on the ground.
Konotori will be docked with the ISS on Tuesday.
Kounotori was launched on Wednesday from the Tanegashima Space Center in Kagoshima Prefecture, carrying 5.5 tons of supplies including drinking water, food and laboratory equipment. A water filtration system was loaded additionally at NASA’s emergency request.
